Sylvester McCoy, who played the Seventh Doctor, has shared a message with Ncuti Gatwa ahead of his upcoming era as the Fourteenth Doctor.
"Welcome, Ncuti Gatwa! Welcome to our unique club," McCoy says. "The Doctor Who club!"
"You are very welcome, and it will be a delight to watch you take on the Daleks, the Cybermen, the Weeping Angels and... the critics. We all had to do that when we took over!
"Anyway, I wish you well. I wish you everything you wish for yourself and the TARDIS, I hope you have great adventures. I know you will, I had. All the best mate, all the best. I look forward to meeting you someday.
"Another Scot," he added. "Wehay!"
Sylvester McCoy originally portrayed the Seventh incarnation of The Doctor from 1987 to 1989 and eventually regenerated in the 1996 Doctor Who TV Movie.
Ncuti Gatwa will replace Jodie Whittaker after her final story, the Doctor Who Centenary Special, which will air later in 2022.
