We are sad to report that Robert Banks Stewart, writer of the classic adventures ‘Terror of the Zygons’ and ‘The Seeds of Doom’, has died today, aged 84.
Doctor Who fans will best remember Robert for writing two adventures for Tom Baker’s Fourth Doctor back in the 1970s. ‘Terror of the Zygons’ introduced the shapeshifting Zygons, a popular foe who recently returned in the 50th Anniversary Special, ‘The Day of the Doctor’, as well as a two-part adventure for Series 9, last year.
‘The Seeds of Doom’, the second of his two classic stories, is a six-parter full of energy, wit, terrific dialogue and superb characters. The Krynoids - the menacing aliens of the story - have only ever appeared in this one, single story. However, they remain one of the best-loved monsters from the early years of the show.
