Writer Toby Whithouse has backed Damien Molony to become The Thirteenth Doctor.
The Doctor Who writer, who also created the BBC Three supernatural series 'Being Human' starring Malony, has been sharing his thoughts with Digital Spy on what the future might hold for the show.
Whithouse said: "Damien Molony, who was on Being Human, I've always thought he'd be terrific. He's a fantastic actor. My ideal choice would either be Damien or Chiwetel Ejiofor, who I think would be absolutely terrific."
Whithouse went on to express his views on Peter Capaldi leaving the show, adding that "it's a real shame" that he's stepping down from the role, but he does "completely understand" his decision.
"I think that Peter's been absolutely incredible as the Doctor. I've got to know him quite well over the time I've been working on the show, and he's just the loveliest guy you'll ever meet.
"I think it's a real shame, but I completely understand it - he came on to the show to work with Steven [Moffat]. But he's an amazing ambassador for the show - because this is something that's been so important to him for all of his life, he understands the importance of the show and just how treasured and loved it is."
Doctor Who returns to BBC One with 'The Pilot' on Saturday, 15th April.
