The upcoming Doctor Who showrunner, Chris Chibnall, has spoken on the possibility of a female actor being cast as The Thirteenth Doctor.
Speaking to the East Anglian Daily Times, Chibnall said: “I can honestly say that nothing has yet been decided. I haven’t got my feet under the table yet.”
The Broadchurch writer went on to add: “I have been working on the play ["Worst Wedding Ever"] and I am still finishing the latest series of Broadchurch.”
“Nothing is ruled out but I don’t want the casting to be a gimmick, and that’s all I can say.”
The new series of Broadchurch starring David Tennant and Olivia Colman starts tonight (27 Feb) at 9pm on ITV. Chibnall's play "Worst Wedding Ever" is at the New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich from 1st - 11th March.
Current Doctor, Peter Capaldi, will step down as the Twelfth Doctor in this year's Doctor Who Christmas Special, and will also star in Series 10 alongside new companion Bill, played by Pearl Mackie, when the show returns to BBC One on 15th April.
