Bookmakers have suspended betting on Kris Marshall for the Thirteenth Doctor.
Marshall, taking over the role, is something that has been speculated ever since the announcement of his departure from BBC One's 'Death in Paradise' last month. The announcement was made very soon after Peter Capaldi announced his own exit from Doctor Who.
Now, following a rather sudden spike in bets for Marshall potentially claiming the keys to the TARDIS, many bookmakers have suspended betting. He's clearly a favourite to step into Capaldi's shoes.
William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams said: “We are seeing money for the triumvirate of Kris Marshall, Tilda Swinton and Olivia Colman. I wonder if they could be the shortlist.”
Alex Donohue, of Ladbrokes, said: “A surge of punters have backed Marshall so we’ve had no choice but to close the book. If he does get the gig, the bookies will be exterminated first!”
Kris Marshall's previous credits include Nick Harper in 'My Family', Dave in 'Citizen Khan', Colin Frissell in 'Love Actually' and most recently DI Humphrey Goodman in 'Death in Paradise'.
Prior to Capaldi being officially announced as the Twelfth Doctor back in 2013, a large number of bets were placed on him, muck like Marshall is receiving this year.
