The BBC appear to have ruled out a female actor being cast as the Thirteenth Doctor, confirming they are looking to cast a male actor for the role.
Ever since Peter Capaldi announced he would be stepping down as the Time Lord, speculation has turned to who will replace him and become the Thirteenth Doctor. One of the most frequently mentioned names is Kris Marshall, as well as Ben Whishaw, Tilda Swinton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Oliva Colman.
The BBC has now however released a statement, reassuring a fan who raised a complaint with the corporation, that the next Doctor will be male, and that there are "currently no plans" to cast a female in the role.
The official complaint to the British Broadcasting Corporation was raised by a fan, who expressed his concern that switching the gender of the Doctor would confuse his kids. The father must have been hugely relieved to hear back from BBC Complaints Officer, Joanne Coyne, stating the following:
"We appreciate that you'e a big Doctor Who fan and you have concerns that the programme would change should there be a female Doctor. Be assured there are currently no plans to have a female Doctor Who."
The letter also mentioned that the complaint they received would be passed onto BBC Senior Management, including the Doctor Who Team.
It is currently unknown when we will find out who will become the next Doctor, and the BBC also appear to have added that "no casting decisions have yet been made on Series 11," but only time will tell...
