Doctor Who is at the start of a new era, and as speculation about the future is rife, there are now reports of potential new spin-off series hitting our screens someday soon.
Russell T Davies has recently returned as showrunner on Doctor Who and a deal between the BBC and Disney has been made in attempt to expand the show’s audience globally and potentially increase the overall production budget.
The latest whispers doing the rounds are that we could soon be watching the adventures of the villains and the stories surrounding their lives away from The Doctor.
According to an article by The Mirror claiming an inside scoop from the BBC, “Fans can expect to see Sontarans, Weeping Angels and Sea Devils in separate series showing what they get up to when the Doctor isn’t there to stop them, along with Daleks and Cybermen.”

As always with these kind of articles, we must take what we read with a giant pinch of salt, however this is something Doctor Who execs may well have in mind going forward, with spin-offs proven to be a success in the past with programmes including Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures, both created by Davies.
Speaking back in 2021, Davies spoke on his vision for what the Doctor Who franchise should look like: “We should be sitting here announcing The Nyssa Adventures or The Return of Donna Noble! The whole science fiction world is so creative and so money-making right now, I think your wildest dreams can come true!”
Disney, who will now be distributing Doctor Who outside the UK, has also reached huge successes with creating a variety of series for franchises including Star Wars and Marvel and may want to attempt this again for the Doctor Who Universe.
